Early morning bird action from mid-May. It all felt very Steve Zissou, as we (The Doc, a guidee and I) hired a fisherman to take us out to a strange little island off Gunsan at 4am, his small boat cleaving a phosphorescent green wake through the algae-laced water. We were in search of Spoon-billed Sandpipers, a critically endangered species with perhaps 150 individuals remaining worldwide. An awesome landscape filled with surreal visuals.
